Josh Cullen is set to return to Charlton Athletic on loan this season, according to reliable source ExWHUemployee.

The West Ham midfielder enjoyed a stellar campaign with the Addicks last term as he helped them gain promotion to the Championship, and even set up a last minute winner in the League One play-off final against Sunderland.

And Ex has claimed that he could be on his way back to The Valley before the transfer window closes.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, he said: “Exclusive: Josh Cullen is likely to move back to Charlton on loan this window.”

OPINION

This would be a smart move from the Hammers if it is true. To be fair to Ex, he has just about the best record of any in-the-know account out there, and as a general rule, if he says something is likely to happen, it is almost certainly likely to happen. This feels like the right thing for Cullen to do the season. The 23-year-old needs to be playing regular first team football at his age, but with the glut of options that the Hammers now have in attacking midfield areas, the chances are that he wouldn’t get those minutes at West Ham. By contrast, he was a huge hit at Charlton, with manager Lee Bowyer even going as far last to say that he’s a better player than he was, as reported by the club’s official website. Cullen fits in well, is guaranteed minutes, and is naturally making progress by playing in a higher league. This one is an absolute no-brainer for everybody involved.
