West Ham attacker Javier Hernandez will surely be hoping Manuel Pellegrini seizes his chance to sign Marseille attacker Florian Thauvin as it could see him get the ideal move away.
Sky Sports journalist Kavel Solhekol reported on Tuesday that the Hammers had been offered the opportunity to Marseille winger, and that the deal being proposed would see Hernandez join the French club.
“What we’re being told at the moment, that the deal being proposed by intermediaries to West Ham, is that West Ham would pay 40million euros (£35.7million) to Marseille for Thauvin and also send Javier Hernandez to Marseille as part of the deal,”said Solhekol on Sky Sports News (19:28, Tuesday, July 9th).
Given that Hernandez could potentially thrive at Marseille, then he is likely wishing that Pellegrini welcomes Thauvin as it seems like the club will take the deal being proposed if they want the 26-year-old.
After all Sky Sports previously reported that the Hammers’ pursuit of Celta Vigo forward Maxi Gomez had failed as they couldn’t agree on a payment structure in order to pay the attacker’s £45million release clause, which implies they don’t have the money upfront that’s needed to sign a Gomez or a Thauvin.
Which means they’d probably have to chuck Hernandez in order to get a deal for Thauvin agreed quickly.
ESPN also previously reported that Hernandez wanted to leave the London Stadium in order to join a club that had confidence in him, and if Marseille thinks he could cover the loss of Thauvin if they sold him; clearly they have faith in his ability.
After all, Thauvin was Marseille’s top goalscorer in his 2018/19 campaign as he scored 18 goals, averaging a goal every 158 minutes, which means the French club will only want a player who could be capable of matching that. (Source: BBC)
So with that in mind, Hernandez is surely eager for the Hammers to sign Thauvin and in turn seal his exit; as he could get his wish to be at a club which believes in him.
