West Ham United are preparing a second offer for West Brom striker Salomon Rondon, according to Football Insider.

The reputable football outlet claim that the Hammers are preparing a £14million bid after their first offer was rejected by the Championship club in June.

Football Insider report that Manuel Pellegrini will only face competition from Newcastle United after another Premier League side, Wolves, dropped out of the race.

The Venezuelan international has a reported £16.5million release clause with West Ham suggested to want to take advantage of the current transfer market by offering just below that figure.

Pellegrini will look to seal a reunion with the 29-year-old, who he worked with during their time in La Liga at Malaga.

OPINION

This would be a great move by Pellegrini to beat top-flight competition to the signing of Rondon. The £60,000-per-week ace [Spotrac] proved his worth and more when leading the line for Newcastle United on loan last season. His physicality would bring well-needed reinforcements to the Chilean’s side and could help bring out another side to the likes of Felipe Anderson. The Venezuelan excelled for Newcastle, scoring 11 goals in an effort that turned the Magpies’ season on its head. The 29-year-old won an average of 4.6 aerial duels per game which helped him deliver seven assists. [WhoScored] The introduction of Rondon would be a great move from the Hammers, who could also sell Marko Arnautovic, should an offer close to £40million come in. That would make the reported £14million offer for Rondon such a small amount and could leave the club in profit to potentially make another signing. Pellegrini has been smart so far in the window, but this move could see the Hammers push for European qualification next season.
