West Ham are unlikely to sign Marseille winger Florian Thauvin this summer, according to reliable source ExWHUemployee.

According to TuttoMercatoWeb, the Hammers have offered £36 million plus Javier Hernandez for the 26-year-old, who hit 18 goals last term and featured in France’s World Cup winning squad.

But Ex has cast doubt over those rumours.

Writing on his personal account, when asked about Thauvin, he said: “I don’t think so.

“He is a winger who we have been previously keen on before but a proven forward is top priority.”

OPINION

English fans probably have a fairly distorted perception of Florian Thauvin. The Frenchman endured a very forgettable spell with Newcastle United in 2015, making just 13 Premier League appearances and failing to find the net at all. Since then, however, he has gone from strength to strength with Marseille. The fact that he was included in that World Cup winning squad, bearing in mind the embarrassment of riches the French had at their disposal, shows just how good he has been since returning to his home country. Last season especially he went from strength to strength, averaging three shots per game and 1.7 successful dribbles [Whoscored]. All of that being said, the Hammers don’t need a wide man, they need an out and out striker, and as transformative as Thauvina has been in recent times, he is not that type of player at all.
