West Ham line up five forward alternatives

|

West Ham United have up to five striker alternatives after missing out on Salomon Rondon, according to Claret and Hugh.

The reliable club source have claimed that the Venezuelan international will move to China to reunite with former boss Rafael Benitez at Dalian Yifang.

Claret and Hugh report that the Hammers have also met the release clause of Celta Vigo forward Maxi Gomez, as Manuel Pellegrini looks to bring in two new strikers this summer.

Gomez would reportedly become West Ham’s number one attacking option next season, with a list of four or five strikers being considered at the London Stadium to provide competition after the departure of Marko Arnautovic.

OPINION

The Hammers definitely mean business this year and are looking to conduct their business quickly to let any new players mix with the squad before the start of the Premier League season. With a reported release clause of only £16.5million, Rondon could have been a steal for Pellegrini, who will have been hoping to secure a cheaper deal for a second striker after reportedly paying £45million for Gomez. With five other names on the list though, it appears that Mario Husillos has come prepared for every eventuality, and could make a move for any of the forwards on the list after a deal for Gomez is completed in the coming days. The Hammers will no doubt be kicking themselves for missing out on a proven top-flight forward in the 29-year-old. Spending last season on loan at Newcastle, Rondon scored 11 goals and won an average of five aerial battles won per-90 minutes.
