West Ham fans on Twitter have been quite gracious in accepting defeat to Valencia amid their reported efforts to sign Celta Vigo centre-forward Maxi Gomez this summer. Gomez, 22, posted on his personal Twitter account on Wednesday afternoon an image of himself at an airport as he waited to board a plane that was bound for Spain. It does suggest that the Uruguay international is going to sign for Valencia, rather than the Hammers. It is a blow for West Ham because Gomez is a good young striker and Manuel Pellegrini needs to find new forwards before the transfer window closes after sanctioning exits for Marko Arnautovic, Lucas Perez and Andy Carroll. Gomez would surely have been a starting striker for the Irons if he had moved to the London Stadium, but Pellegrini, and the fans will now have to hope that the club can sign someone else who is on their radar.
