Aaron Cresswell is one of West Ham’s longest-serving players but many fans have had it with the left-back and want him to be sold by Manuel Pellegrini before the summer transfer window slams shut next month. Cresswell, 29, has made 179 appearances in all competitions since joining the Irons from Ipswich in 2014 but it would be fair to say that there are better left-backs out there than him who Pellegrini can sign. Selling players isn’t as simple as some fans might think though. This summer has been a fairly quiet one with not many clubs doing much business, so West Ham might have to put a low price-tag on Cresswell’s head in order to get rid of him. Who wants a player that a mid-table Premier League club wants to sell? It’s going to either be a team that will be fighting against relegation next season or a top Championship side, who might not have much money to spend. Cresswell has two years left of his contract so might not even want to leave unless Pellegrini signs someone to play ahead of him first. If West Ham can’t sign a new left-back until they’ve sold one, they might not be able to convince Cresswell to make a backwards move in his career. It would be a good idea to upgrade on someone like Cresswell, but it’s easier said than done.
