Ever since West Ham United’s well-publicised pursuit of Celta Vigo striker Maxi Gomez came to a standstill, focus has shifted dramatically to Eintracht Frankfurt frontman Sebastien Haller.
Indeed, French publication L’Equipe reported on Friday that the Hammers have even called in super agent Willie McKay to get a deal over the line for the 25-year-old.
Firstly, L’Equipe is the premier sports newspaper in France and is therefore a well-respected source. Secondly, if West Ham are getting McKay involved then it’s clear that they are as serious as can be about bringing in the Frenchman.
L’Equipe’s report states that contract negotiations have begun between the east London outfit and the player, with a fee of around £36million thought to have been agreed between the two clubs.
This will be enough to have the Hammers supporters hugely excited about the prospect of them signing a player who was involved in 32 goals for a Luka Jovic-centered Frankfurt side last time out.
McKay isn’t a West Ham employee, so it’s not as if he’d normally be involved in negotiations between them and a prospective signing. Indeed, Haller is thought to have originally rejected a move to the London Stadium, but McKay and a number of other factors appear to have changed his mind.
Everything seems to be pointing in the direction of Haller arriving in east London as Marko Arnautovic’s replacement and the perfect man to lead the Hammers attack moving forward.
McKay has entered the fray, and it’s seen the Haller talks accelerate ten-fold. It now seems as if the Frenchman is destined to be wearing claret and blue next season – something which will fill the team’s supporters with glee.
