West Ham United will allow midfielder Pedro Obiang to leave their pre season base in China within 24 hours to complete his exit from the London Stadium, according to Football Insider.

The outlet claims that the Equatorial Guinea international will be given permission to leave the Far East, where the club have been competing in the Premier League Asia Trophy.

The 27-year-old is now set to jet out to Italy to link up with Serie A side Sassuolo, and will undergo a medical before putting pen to paper on a contract.

The Hammers are said to have accepted a fee of £7million plus add ons for the former Sampdoria man.

OPINION

£7million plus add ons is a pretty decent deal for a player who was likely going to be fourth choice at best in the centre of the West Ham midfield next season. Declan Rice, Mark Noble and Jack Wilshere – providing he stays fit – will be expect to swallow up the majority of the game time in the centre of the pitch, so Obiang was always going to be a candidate to be sold this summer. The Hammers have spent plenty of money since Manuel Pellegrini arrived and that is going to have to be offset from somewhere. £7million+ for a fourth choice central midfielder seems like a pretty good place to start. Obiang has been a decent servant to the east London side but he’s never been what you could call a star man. Pellegrini’s team will keep on ticking without him and, as long as Wilshere can stay fit, his absence likely won’t be felt at all moving forward.
