West Ham cool on Costa

West Ham are unlikely to sign Diego Costa this summer, according to reliable source Claret & Hugh.

The 24 cap Spanish international has been linked with a move to east London, as reported by the Mirror, but it is understood that the Hammers are not set to make a move for the Atletico Madrid man.

Speaking to Claret & Hugh, a club source said: “I can’t see that happening.

“He has shown he can cause  issues and perhaps he’s not the player he once was.”

It’s a shame that West Ham are unlikely to move for Costa. The Spaniard is real talent, just ask Chelsea fans, and even though he is 30, he is still more than capable of doing a job for a Premier League side. A lot has been made of his attitude, and understandably so given his tendency to go on strike when things aren’t going his way (ask Chelsea fans), but there is no escaping the fact that he is a player who can make a huge difference, especially for a side in West Ham’s position. At the 2018 World Cup he averaged 2.5 shots per game and a pass completion rate of 82.1% across the competition [Whoscored], and while he may have struggled to hit his usual heights in Spain in recent times, he still has the clinical streak needed to be a success. Here’s hoping that the Irons reconsider.
