Pellegrini to be given funds

There are still 14 days left in the summer transfer window, but it already feels like a lot of sides are beginning to wind down in their business.

West Ham have spent well this summer, but up until a couple of days ago, any kind of extra dealings would probably have been best characterised as hopeful rather than likely.

Now, however, with Pedro Obiang returning to Italy with Sassuolo, and with Marcus Browne looking as if he is on his way to Middlesbrough, as reported by ExWHUemployee, it feels as if there might just have been a shift towards the increased probability of new faces before deadline day.

And according to Ex, those in charge of the pursestrings seem happy to facilitate that.

Writing on his personal Twitter, he said: “With Obiang, Browne and potentially a couple more players leaving.

“Pellegrini will be given some funds to spend and a backup forward and defensive midfielder are the positions he is most likely to look to strengthen.”

If this is true, then it will no doubt have Hammers everywhere purring.

Sebastien Haller and Pablo Fornals look like real quality additions, but if you throw into the mix another new forward and a midfielder to provide competition and cover for Declan Rice and Mark Noble, suddenly you’re looking at a squad who could realistically push for Europe next season.

You have to speculate to accumulate, and here’s hoping that the Irons are readying themselves for one last throw of the dice in what remains of the current transfer window.
