West Ham reject bid for Diop

|

West Ham have rejected an offer from Manchester United for defender Issa Diop, according to Julien Maynard.

The French journalist, who reports for Telefoot, claimed that the Hammers centre-back wants to join Manchester United but that the London club are intent on keeping him.

Maynard reports that Manchester United’s first bid saw them offer £45million plus one player, but doesn’t states whether they’ll return with an improved offer.

“West Ham have just turned down a first offer from Manchester United for Issa Diop. The player would like to join the Red Devils, but his club intends to keep him,” wrote Maynard on his verified Twitter account.

“Manchester United’s offer to West Ham for Issa Diop: $45M – one player!”

OPINION

West Ham rejecting the bid from Manchester United is excellent news for West Ham supporters, however the idea that Diop wants to join the club’s Premier League rivals is a bit of a kick in the stomach.  The 22-year-old centre-back only arrived at the London Stadium last summer and he should be more committed to the cause and not ready to jump ship just yet. While Manchester United are expecting to compete at the top-end of the Premier League in the upcoming season and are a prestigious club to join, Diop still has worked to do at the London Stadium. The centre-back featured 38 times across all competitions for Manuel Pellegrini’s side and while he did impress in the majority of his outings, it’s clear the club haven’t seen the best of him yet. Hopefully now that Man United have tasted rejection in their pursuit of Diop, it’s enough to put them off and see them chase other targets. However if they get wind of the fact Diop is thought to want a move to Old Trafford, then they may keep banging down the Hammers’ door.
