West Ham have enquired about the services of Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay, according to Sky Sports.
The broadcaster claim that the Hammers have asked about the availability of the 22-year-old midfielder while in discussions with Manchester United about centre-back Issa Diop.
Sky Sports report that Manchester United are willing to offer £45million plus a player to sign the Hammers defender but that Manuel Pellegrini’s side do not want to sell him and aren’t interested in the players being offered in return.
West Ham making contact about McTominay is a little bit of a surprise as it’s hard to see him fitting into Pellegrini’s team and it’s even harder to imagine Man United considering getting rid of him. The 22-year-old featured 22 times across all competitions for Man United in his 2018/19 campaign and played the full 90 minutes of his side’s last two league games of the season. Given that he finished the season by being trusted to play 90 minutes, rather than come off the bench like he previously had, he may be a player that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to utilise more next season. McTominay, who stands at 6ft 4in tall (Source: Transfermarkt) has the potential to be a rock in Man United’s midfield in the future if he continues to fulfil his potential based on his stats so far. The 22-year-old has a tackle success rate of 86% across the 31 appearances he has made in the league and is constantly putting himself about shown by the fact he has already won 107 duels and intercepted the ball 30 times (Source: Premier League). So the Hammers should be expecting to be told that McTominay is not for sale.
