COMMENTARY

Many West Ham fans were dismayed at their club reportedly pursuing the services of Emmanuel Adebayor. The Sun reported on Friday that the Hammers alongside Sheffield United and Watford were looking at the 35-year-old attacker, with Manuel Pellegrini’s side looking for a player capable of replacing Andy Carroll. Yet even though the newspaper pointed out Adebayor would be available on a free transfer after ending his stay at Turkish club Basaksehir by mutual consent; a large section of Hammers fans weren’t impressed. One Hammers fan claimed that they were having nightmares over the thought of Adebayor joining their club, while another claimed the 35-year-old’s name always made them start twitching. Adebayor managed to appear only 24 times for Basaksehir in his 2018/19 campaign, and it doesn’t seem likely that he is still good enough to feature in the Premier League. The 35-year-old managed only four goals in his outings, and while he may be Premier League proven having played 242 times in the division, Hammers fans are right to be dismayed at their club considering Adebayor, as it would be a step backwards.
