Magee: West Ham could spend as much as last year

|

Sky Sports journalist Aidan Magee boldly claimed West Ham could end up spending £100million on transfers again this summer.

The reliable reporter shared that after already signing three players this summer, then it looked like the Hammers could end up spending somewhere between £95million and £100million.

“They spent £100million last summer, they’ve already signed three players this summer already, their spending looks as if it could go up to £95million or £100million again,” said Magee on Sky Sports News (9:40am, Monday June 17th).

West Ham have so far confirmed the signings of Pablo Fornals, David Martin and Roberto Jimenez Gago this summer.

OPINION

It’s hard to imagine West Ham spending loads of money on transfers again as they went a bit mad last summer. The Hammers only need a few top-quality players to be added to Manuel Pellegrini’s squad so they shouldn’t be expected to pay out nearly £100million again on transfer fees. The only way they should be considering spending anywhere near that much is if they sell a few of their first-team players. However it’s hard to know who they could possibly get rid of. Marko Arnautovic seems settled once again at the London Stadium after a strong end to his 2018/19 campaign and it’s hard to see him being sold, it’s also hard to see the likes of Issa Diop and Declan Rice chucked out the door as Pellegrini no doubt views them as important. So with that in mind, you feel West Ham fans would no doubt love Magee to be right about how much their club could spend this summer, but that they may also be a bit worried where this transfer kitty is going to come from.
