West Ham United are interested in signing Fenerbahce captain Hasan Ali Kaldirim this summer, according to BBC Sport.

The broadcaster claims that the Hammers have spoken to the player’s agent, with the left back keen on a move to England this off season.

The Turkey international has a £4.42million release clause in his contract, which expires in a year’s time. Manuel Pellegrini’s side were previously linked with the player in 2017.

The 29-year-old has been with the Turkish giants since 2012. Pellegrini struggled to find a solution at left back through this season.

OPINION

This is an interesting one, isn’t it? The left back position was a problem for the Hammers throughout the campaign, although Arthur Masuaku came on leaps and bounds towards the end of the season. Aaron Cresswell’s future appears to be uncertain, though, so if the England international moves on then Pellegrini will need to bring another player in at the position. Obviously Kaldirim is an experienced international who has been playing at a high level with Fenerbahce for several years now and his price tag is exceedingly affordable. Contact has apparently already been made, while all this comes from the most reputable of sources in the BBC. So this could well be true, and it would make a lot of sense. Kaldirim is a quality operator who would likely provide more consistency than Masuaku moving forward – unless the DR Congo international can maintain his form from his stunning end to the season. What’s not to like with the Turk, though?
