West Ham are in talks to sign Marseille midfielder Morgan Sanson this summer, according to Sky Sports

The outlet report that West Ham have entered into talks with Marseille sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta and Sanson’s agent in a bid to secure a deal for the midfield during the summer transfer widow.

It is believed that Marseille would be willing to consider offers for a few of their players this summer, following the French club missing out on qualification for next season’s Champions League.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side are thought to be facing competition for the 24-year-old from fellow Premier League sides Newcastle United and Wolves, with Marseille believed to be wanting around £31.1 million for the midfielder this summer.

OPINION

This latest report is encouraging for West Ham and appears to suggest they are stepping up their attempts to sign Sanson this summer. The midfielder would be a very useful addition for the Hammers, after enjoying an impressive campaign in Ligue 1 last term having scored five times and registered three further assists for the French club last term. Pellegrini is clearly very keen on improving upon his options in the centre of the park this summer, having previously made an offer for Barcelona’s Andre Gomes according to the Sky Sports report. It is easy to see why the Chilean thinks he needs to add to his midfield this summer, with the likes of Manuel Lanzini and Jack Wilshere having little impact last term following injury troubles. West Ham will face competition for Sanson, but with the Hammers already in talks with Marseille they could have stolen a march on their rivals for the 24-year-old’s signature this summer.
