It feels as if West Ham are being linked with every Tom, Dick, and Harry at the moment. After swooping for Spanish midfielder Pablo Fornals last week, the Hammers are now being touted for a move for a robust centre forward. Maxi Gomez and Salomon Rondon have been named, as reported by the Evening Standard and Football.London respectively, but the latest target man to be mooted for a potential move is Tottenham striker Fernando Llorente. According to reliable Hammers source ExWHUemployee, the Spaniard is being monitored by the Irons with view to a possible switch this summer, and it’s fair to say that fans aren’t too happy. In defence of the 34-year-old, he is a very useful player in a very specific role. As far as hold-up men go, there are few who can hassle and harry defenders as effectively as him. On average, the forward won 3.1 aerial duels per game for Spurs last season, according to Whoscored. But the fact of the matter is that he is not the sort of player West Ham should be looking at. The club looks as if it is making real strides under Manuel Pellegrini, but that progress is going to be slowed notably if they start buying players approaching the end of their careers seeking one last pay day. All in all, Llorente should be avoided.
