West Ham United’s official Twitter account delivered a post on Saturday night congratulating Liverpool ‘on behalf of literally everyone’ at the club after their Champions League final victory over Tottenham Hotspur. Now, we can all see what they were getting at here. The Hammers are, after all, Spurs’ London rivals, and so they were only too happy to see Mauricio Pochettino’s side come up short in the showpiece event. However, this doesn’t show a whole lot of class, does it? It’s one thing for Hammers supporters to revel in Tottenham’s defeat on football’s biggest stage, but for the official club account to take a subtle dig at their rivals is a bit much. This has become a bit of a trend in football these days: clubs resorting to bizarre methods to try and seem like they are on the cutting edge of social media. However, we’ve seen with other teams recently that it can go too far, and that’s probably what happened here. It’s a harmless tweet, yes, but there’s just no need for it really.
