Scottish heavyweights Rangers are interested in making a summer move for West Ham United starlet Marcus Browne, according to The Scotsman.

The Scottish outlet claims that Steven Gerrard wants to bring the 21-year-old to Ibrox after he impressed in an excellent campaign on loan at Oxford United this term.

It remains to be seen what the Hammers will decide to do with the midfielder, with Goal reporting earlier this week that Manuel Pellegrini will give him a chance to impress this pre season.

OPINION

It will be interesting to see what West Ham decide to do with Browne this summer, because they’ve clearly got an incredibly talented prospect on their hands. The attacking midfielder was in terrific form for Karl Robinson’s side this season, scoring nine goals and grabbing five assists in all competitions. Those are tremendous tallies for a young midfielder and suggest that he’s got the ability to make the step up to a higher level. Whether Pellegrini deems him ready to play Premier League football remains to be seen, but he’s got a couple of options no matter what. No doubt Oxford would dearly love to have him back at the Kassam Stadium next time out, while Rangers are clearly very keen on recruiting him as well. Out of those two options, it would surely be better for him to enjoy a spell in Glasgow. He can progress with Gerrard’s team, playing a higher standard of football for a much bigger club in Rangers. That would get him in the frame for a run in the Hammers first team in the future.
