They say it’s not what you know, it’s who you know that will get you far in life.
Having a mate or two in decent positions you can call on in your hour of need can be just as important, if not more so, than grafting away at a problem for an indefinite amount of time.
And one issue that has plagued West Ham for what feels like an eternity is their lack of a decent striker.
The Hammers have stumbled from one quick fix to another through the years, but have yet to really land on that winning formula that can help them kick on and become a proper top six contender.
Last season’s most prevalent out and out striker was Javier Hernandez, but even then, the little Mexican only managed an average of 1.5 shots and 0.4 key passes per match [Whoscored].
Clearly then, reinforcements are needed, and one name that refuses to go away is that of Salomon Rondon.
The Venezuelan has been repeatedly linked with the Hammers this summer, as reported by the Northern Echo.
And if the Irons are to kick on and properly land their man, they could well be helped by an old friend.
Slaven Bilic is manager of Rondon’s West Brom now, and if the 29-year-old is to leave the Hawthorns this summer, where better to send him than to the Croatian’s old club?
More to the point though, West Ham have a lot to offer in return. As reported by Football.London, aside from just money, the Hammers also have a whole host of players they are looking to move on, such as Jordan Hugill, Sam Byram and Reece Oxford.
Some kind of agreement between east London and the Midlands could surely be thrashed out, and if it can, then it could be hugely beneficial to both parties.
