Oftentimes, when a player joins a club, they will spin some media-sanitised yarn about realising their dreams and being a lifelong admirer of whichever side have won the race for their signature by giving them the most money. For a fan, that spiel can wear a bit thin after years of repetition, so it’s refreshing when a new hero acts with something resembling genuine integrity. Take Felipe Anderson at West Ham. When the Brazilian joined the Hammers last summer, no doubt he also gave some pre-approved statement about the history and size of the club. But fast forward 12 months or so, and you now get the distinct impression that he has fallen head over heels in love with life in east London. His performances on the field last season, yielding 10 goals and five assists, plus an impressive Whoscored rating of 7.23 for the season, showed a player who was enjoying his form immensely, but off the field he seems settled and happy too. And that appreciation for West Ham appears to have spread through his family as well. In a tweet posted to the club’s official Twitter account, Anderson can be seen crossing his arms to mimic the Hammers’ crest with his two younger sisters. Clearly, this is a player who has taken to the club like a duck to water, and who is loving his time in England. That can only be a good thing for the Hammers.
