Premier League heavyweights Manchester United are ready to offer £45million plus a player for West Ham United centre back Issa Diop, according to journalist Kaveh Solhekol.

The Sky Sports reporter revealed the news on his personal Twitter account on Saturday, claiming that the Red Devils are interested in a player the Hammers signed from Toulouse a year ago.

However, Solhekol states that the east London outfit have made it clear that the Frenchman is not for sale.

OPINION

Well, what a day this has been for West Ham! First there was the news about Maxi Gomez and now there’s this nugget from Solhekol about Diop. We all know that Manchester United are looking to secure a top class centre back this summer and it appears that their gaze has now settled on the Hammers star. However, £45million surely wouldn’t be enough to afford a single one of the Frenchman’s boots, let alone all of them. He arrived at the London Stadium for about half that amount last summer, so for them to sell him a year later for not a huge amount, would surely be madness. The prices that are being bandied about for players these days shows you that silly season is upon us, but £45million is nowhere near enough to secure Diop – even with a player in the mix. To be honest, who are United going to offer that the Hammers would be interested in? They’ve got a mediocre squad. So while they may well be interested, this is a deal that appears doomed to fail.
