Manchester United are preparing a fresh offer for West Ham United defender Issa Diop, according to ExWHUemployee.

The reliable Hammers source claimed that there was talk of the Red Devils readying a bid of £65million for the Frenchman, after having a previous approach rejected.

Speaking on the West Ham Way (27/06, 59:26) he said: “Manchester United are considering actually putting in a formal offer for Diop, it was an enquiry before.”

“Talk is of a £65million offer coming in, it hasn’t come in yet.”

Manchester United had reportedly offered Phil Jones in a previous offer, with rumours suggesting the Hammers would prefer Anthony Martial involved in any deal.

Former Toulouse man Diop arrived at the London Stadium in 2018 for £22million and quickly became a mainstay in Manuel Pellegrini’s side.

OPINION

Giving the fact that Pellegrini had reportedly slapped a £75million valuation on the head of Diop, this offer comes much closer to that and will give the Chilean a headache this summer. At only 22-years-old, Diop has a long career ahead of him and has improved massively as the year has gone on in the previous season. Diop has been West Ham’s main defender this season at such a young age, winning 2.3 aerial battles per game, alongside an impressive 86% passing success – highlighting his importance both in defence and in possession. [WhoScored] This offer would signal Manchester United’s intent this summer, with ExWHUemployee going on to highlight that Diop is their second choice behind Leicester City’s Harry Maguire. This could be a big turning point in discussions as if the Red Devils make progress with Maguire, their interest in Diop would be instantly dropped. This one will no doubt drag on throughout the summer – watch closely as this one unfolds.
