West Ham United co chairman David Gold has sent a supportive message to outgoing Hammers starlet Nathan Trott.

The club announced that the 20-year-old would be leaving the club to join League One side AFC Wimbledon on loan next season, and Gold has wished him the best.

“West Ham keeper Nathan Trott has joined League One AFC Wimbledon on loan until the end of next season,” he wrote on his personal Twitter account.

“The England under20 international will link up with coach Wally Downes and he will hope to make his senior debut and gain valuable first-team experience. Good luck Nathan. dg.”

OPINION

This loan spell is exactly what Trott needed. The youngster is highly regarded within the West Ham set-up and is considered to be a future first team goalkeeper for the club. However, he’s not going to reach that level unless he goes and and gets regular starts for a lower league club first. He needs to hone his game and experience the pressure of first team football. AFC Wimbledon are a quality side who have made huge strides in recent years. They will treat Trott correctly and give him the support he needs over the course of next season. It’s going to be massively exciting to see how the ‘keeper fares across London as he gets his first taste of first team football. Wally Downes should be a good influence on him, and it’s likely he will return to the London Stadium a much better player than the one leaving this summer.
