Salomon Rondon has become the main priority for West Ham as the summer transfer window approaches after Maxi Gomez has fallen down the pecking order, according to Football London.

The 29-year old is still in contract with West Bromwich Albion but played his football on loan at Newcastle United this season, scoring eleven and assisting seven in the Premier League this season.

According to Football London, the striker is now top of Manuel Pellegrini’s transfer wishlist in the summer, after the Hammers interest in Maxi Gomez has begun falling through.

The £60,000-per-week man (Source: Spotrac) has a release clause of £16.5million and will no doubt be looking to make his return to the Premier League, and now it seems West Ham may be the front runners.

OPINION

Rondon has shown this season with Newcastle exactly why he should be playing his football in the Premier League, and although it seemed that he could have been on his way back to Newcastle, it now seems like the Hammers could be the ones to bring him back to the top flight. The 29-year old would be a perfect fit for the Hammers, however they may face competition in persuading him into a move to the London Stadium. There is no doubt that Rondon has what it takes to cut it in the Premier League, and it far too good for a life in the Championship. It may end up being the simple case of him picking which side he wants to join, as it seems there will be a fair few looking to bring him to their club. For the price of £16.5m, Pellegrini surely can’t really go wrong. It seems like a simple decision for the Hammers to go in for Rondon and make a serious bid for the striker, but whether the move will come to fruition or not is another story.
