The Argentine’s current deal expires at the end of next season, but the Hammers do have the option to extend it until 2022, and are expected to open negotiations over a new contract to tie him to the club on a long term basis.
The 26-year-old currently earns £70,000-a-week, having put pen to paper back in 2016.
If the Hammers can tie Lanzini down then that would brilliant. He has struggled this season with injuries and absence, but when he is fit and firing, he is a fantastic set for the club. There is a strong argument that he could be playing for a much more successful side than the Irons, and had it not been for his horrendous injury last summer, that could well have been much more talk about him leaving the club. Getting him to sign a new deal now feels like a prudent move, especially as you would expect him to start hitting his peak again next season. As soon as that happens you can expect a whole host of attention, and the Irons would be in a much more stable position if they had the security of knowing that Lanzini was theirs for the long haul. Hopefully they can tie a deal up as soon as possible.
