West Ham are keen on Manchester City defender Nicolas Otamendi, according to the Daily Mail.

The £120,000-a-week Argentine [Spotrac] has won two Premier League title with the Blues, but has made just 14 starts and four substitute appearances in the Premier League this season.

It is understood that the Irons retain an interest in the South American ahead of a potential move for his services., but could face competition from Wolves and Atletico Madrid should they decide to make a move.

OPINION

Otamendi is a top quality defensive talent, a man who has won it all in the English game, and the sort of player who would be a fantastic option for a team of West Ham’s stature. He has fallen out of favour a little at City this season, but predominantly that is because of the level of talent around him rather than anything he himself has done. Whenever called upon he is reliable and accomplished, and you get the impression that given a proper run in a side he could go on to become a real force for a team pushing for Europe. There would no doubt be competition for his signature, if City were looking to sell at all, but if the Hammers can steal a march on those around them and bring him in, he could be a massive coup for the Londoners. Fingers crossed this one comes off.
