West Ham are in talks to sign Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos, according to the Express.

The 22-year-old Spanish international has been deemed surplus to requirements by Real boss Zinedine Zidane, and is valued at around £20 million by the Spanish giants.

It is understood that Manuel Pellegrini has been impressed with scouting reports on the Spanish international, and will try and bring him to East London this summer.

OPINION

This would be a great signing for West Ham. Ceballos may be struggling to make an impact at Real, but that is hardly a reflection on his quality as a player, and more an illustration of the high level of competition he faces at the club. Anybody good enough for Los Blancos and the Spanish national team is surely good enough for the Hammers, and the 22-year-old would bring a touch of class to the Irons’ midfield. They are not exactly short of options in that department as it stands, but with Jack Wilshere a constant injury concern, Samir Nasri’s future up in the air, and with Mark Noble surely approaching the twilight of his career, a new, long term addition wouldn’t go amiss. Whether it comes off or not is a different matter, of course, but the report seems fairly promising, and supporters will be hoping that the Hammers can land a very promising star from a European powerhouse.
