OPINION
The Times reported on Sunday that West Ham United have made an £18million bid to Barcelona for midfielder Andre Gomes, who spent the 2018/19 season on loan at Premier League side Everton. The view from the Hammers supporters certainly appears to be rather positive, with the majority of them recognising this for what it is: a phenomenal signing that is probably unlikely to come off – at the moment, at least. £18million is unlikely to get you Gomes’ left boot, in all honesty, so the West Ham hierarchy are going to have to dig a little deeper if they want to sign the Portugal international. Everton will surely also be interested in signing him permanently, while there will likely be other big teams sniffing around the Barca star as well. It’s going to be difficult for Manuel Pellegrini’s side to win this race, unless they somehow manage to outbid everyone else. This would be a perfect signing for the Hammers, but sadly a rather unlikely one.
