West Ham United have made contact with Spanish heavyweights Real Madrid over midfielder Dani Ceballos, according to Don Balon.

The Spanish outlet claims that the Hammers have been tracking the 22-year-old and have gone as far as to phone Zinedine Zidane’s side over him.

Don Balon’s report states that Ceballos already has one foot out of the Bernabeu door, with Zidane seemingly not a fan of the Spanish international.

However, the player himself isn’t willing to swap Madrid for a middling Premier League side like West Ham, making this potential transfer unlikely.

OPINION

Well, Ceballos is certainly someone who West Ham should be looking at. He’s a wonderfully gifted footballer, that’s why he’s been able to make the grade at Madrid, and so why wouldn’t Manuel Pellegrini want to bring him to east London? Unfortunately, though, Ceballos doesn’t really seem like he wants to make the move to the London Stadium. He obviously thinks of that as being too big a drop-off from Madrid and he’s probably not wrong. Even if he doesn’t make a move to a top, top European side, he will be looking at the tier just below that, teams like Arsenal, Inter Milan and Borussia Dortmund. West Ham aren’t in that group of teams, not by a long shot, and so they can’t really expect someone like Ceballos to be desperate to join them. However, if they continue to make it known to him how much they want him, they might just be able to coax him to joining the Hammers.
