Pellegrini delivers worrying Rice comments

This season has been up and down for West Ham.

There have been moments of brilliance and moments of ridiculousness in seemingly equal measure, and another mid table finish will probably leave most fans feeling a little disappointed.

That being said, it does feel as if tentative progress is being made, and the hope will be that if they can get another decent summer window under their belt, this is a side who can really kick on next year.

A key figure in the brighter parts of this campaign has been Declan Rice.

The young midfielder has had a stellar season, and has made himself an undroppable part of the Hammers’ plans.

Add to that an England debut and it’s fair to say that the 20-year-old has had a pretty good year, all things considered.

He has the potential to be a future captain for the Irons, and is already a hero amongst the East London faithful.

Supporters will be on tenterhooks, therefore, when they hear Manuel Pellegrini’s latest comments on Rice.

As quoted in the Sun, the Chilean said:”It’s impossible, I cannot know the future.

“He is, of course, a player who has had a brilliant season, who is 20-year old and an English player who has a lot of qualities. Maybe some of the big teams, or all of them, will want him.

“But that is one thing – the other is whether he will stay here or he goes, and I cannot say at this moment.”

That is just about the last thing you want to hear as a West Ham fan.

The Sun have previously reported that Manchester United are keen on the midfielder, and in the face of such a financially monstrous side, there is always the risk that a player could be lured away.

Those fears are only made worse when a manager admits that he doesn’t know what the future holds for a player, and Pellegrini’s non-committal answer could lead to a nervy summer at the London Stadium.
