West Ham are on the cusp of being a top level side.

They may have finished 10th, the very definition of mid table, after a mixed  season, but there have been enough flashes of brilliance to make you think that they are going in the right direction under Manuel Pellegrini.

A thumping 4-1 win over Watford on Sunday was a nice way to cap things off for another term, but now the hard work really begins behind the scenes.

With a couple of decent captures, the Hammers could really kick on next season, but Pellegrini will know better than anybody that making the right signing is a lot easier said than done.

Hours and hours of scouting, sessions of tense negotiations with clubs and agents, and a new acquisition can still end up being a massive flop. It’s not easy.

That’s why buying from within the league is always a good idea.

Bring in a player from a Premier League rival and nine times out of 10 you know he can cut it.

That’s why the latest report on Chelsea midfielder should have the Hammers very excited.

According to the Sun, the £35,000-a-week England international [Spotrac], will not sign a new contract until he is given assurances of the amount of first team football he will play.

The Irons have been linked with the midfielder before, as reported in the Daily Mail, and should definitely rekindle their interest.

If Loftus-Cheek wants first team football, he is all but guaranteed it at the London Stadium, and he could be exactly the kind of player needed to take the club to the next level.
