West Ham United striker Andy Carroll’s partner Billi Mucklow confirmed in an Instagram post that he is leaving the club this summer.

The 30-year-old is out of contract at the London Stadium this summer, and came onto the pitch to wave goodbye to the Hammers faithful after Saturday’s 3-0 win over Southampton, having made a total of 142 appearances during his time with the club.

Now, Mucklow has confirmed what many people have suspected for months: “Farewell West Ham,” she wrote in a post on her personal Instagram account.

“Proud Of My Family, My Carroll Boys,” she finished.

OPINION

Everyone associated with West Ham has known this has been coming for the last few months. Carroll regained full fitness mid-way through the season but never found the form he displayed at Newcastle United during his peak years and subsequently picked up another knock that has kept him out of the last couple of months of the campaign. That’s pretty much been the story for the England international throughout his Hammers tenure: injuries after injuries. He’s never been able to stay consistently fit and that’s the biggest reason why he’s leaving the club this summer. It’s a shame, because on his day he’s a problem for everyone in the Premier League. His physical attributes mean he will always be a threat to the opposition in the right system, but he doesn’t suit Manuel Pellegrini’s style of football and the Chilean cannot rely on him to stay fit. Ultimately his departure will be seen as a positive, as it will clear a big chunk off the club’s wage bill.
