Football.London’s West Ham correspondent Sam Inkersole has delivered updates on the Hammers’ reported pursuits of La Liga duo Dani Ceballos and Maxi Gomez.

The Irons were linked with Real Madrid midfielder Ceballos over the weekend, as reported by the Express, but have been credited with a long term interest in Celta Vigo striker Gomez, according to the Daily Mail.

And Inkersole has given his opinion on both potential moves.

During a Q&A on Football.London, he said: “Honestly, I have no idea where these links to Dani Ceballos came from, they emerged completely out of nowhere but talks have supposedly intensified over recent days though that is coming from Spain.

“I think it’s a realistic target yes, but whether he’d be keen for swapping the Bernabeu for London Stadium, we shall see.

“Gomez…definitely. He’s been linked to Liverpool as well but they really don’t need him, lets be honest, that’s probably agent talk trying to drum up interest.

“The Hammers made their intentions clear in January regarding the striker.”

OPINION

This is fairly good news for West Ham. There are few outsiders who know as much about the club as Inkersole does, and if he says that the Gomez interest is strong, then you can bet it is. The Uruguayan would be a fine addition for the Hammers – the kind of traditional, prolific centre forward they have been crying out for for some time now. The Ceballos rumours seem a little more complicated, but there’s definitely nothing here to suggest they are completely made up. Maybe things have been over exaggerated, as they so often are at this time of year, but judging by Inkersole’s comments, the midfielder seems like the sort of player that Manuel Pellegrini will be looking for this summer. Regardless of if the Chilean pursues these two targets or not, you can bet that it will be a busy summer at the London Stadium, and whether it’s Gomez and Ceballos or another duo, there will be plenty of activity.
