Hammers not interested in Cuellar

|

West Ham are not interested in signing Colombian international Gustavo Cuellar, according to reliable outlet Claret & Hugh.

According to journalist Gustavo Henrique Dando Choque, the Hammers had been expected to announce a deal for the 26-year-old, but Claret & Hugh has disputed the assertion.

The outlet reports that a senior club source said: “Really don’t know where this one has come from because there is nothing in it as far as anyone here is concerned.”

OPINION

This seems to be a pretty resolute denial of any interest whatsoever in Cuellar. You have to wonder where these rumours come from sometimes. It’s almost as if agents and those who start them off take a dart and just throw it at a map. The Hammers will no doubt be looking for a new midfielder this summer, especially with doubts remaining over the future of Samir Nasri and Pedro Obiang, but it would appear that Cuellar is definitely not the man they are looking for. There will no doubt be plenty of red herrings over the course of this window, and plenty more exciting moves that never come to fruition. As far as Cuellar is concerned, the story is likely to rumble on for a while longer, but it would be a massive surprise if the South American were to end up in East London after such a definitive refutal.
