Edmilson Fernandes’ agent has suggested that the player is “very happy” in Italy, hinting that he could be tempted to leave West Ham this summer.

The 23-year-old has spent the season on loan at Fiorentina, making 37 appearances for the Serie A club.

And speaking to Viola News, as quoted by Football.London, Fernandes’ representative Franco Moretti said: “The boy is very happy with his experience in Fiorentina, he is very happy to be in Italy.

“At the end of the season we will meet with the owners and the coach and we will talk about the boy’s future, trying to take the best decision for everyone.

“With the new coach [Vincenzo] Montella there was immediately a good relationship. The boy is very happy.”

OPINION

You can understand why Fernandes is happy in Italy. Regular football is always going to play well with a footballer at any level, and at 23, he will feel that the time is right for him to be playing week in, week out for a senior side. To be fair to Fernandes, his performances have justified that assumption as well. He has done very well for Fiorentina this season, so well in fact that there is definitely an argument for West Ham wanting to give him a chance next season. Fernandes is still young enough to develop even further, and certainly the signs are that he could be a really useful asset for Manuel Pellegrini’s side. Whether that is what the Swiss international wants, however, is another matter entirely. Those talks that Moratti alludes to will be very interesting indeed, but if the Hammers have any sense, they will do their level best to convince Fernandes that his future lies in East London.
