West Ham United attacker Lucas Perez is in talks with La Liga side Alaves over a potential summer move, according to The Sun.

The newspaper claims that the Spaniard is closing in on a move back to his homeland just one year after signing for the Hammers from Arsenal for £4million.

The fee for Perez’s Spanish switch would likely be around £2million, with the 30-year-old failing to make his mark at the London Stadium.

He scored six goals in just 19 appearances this season and still has two years on his contract. However, the club are keen to get their bit-part players off the wage bill this summer.

OPINION

Perez’s time in east London just never sparked into life, despite him having a fairly decent goalscoring record over his season with the club. It seems that Manuel Pellegrini simply never really fancied him, despite bringing him in a year ago. He’s clearly someone who the manager feels he can do without and, with the club looking to trim their wage bill this summer, he seems like an ideal candidate to move on. He’s not a bad footballer and he did well in spurts this campaign, but there won’t be many Hammers fans upset if he departs for Alaves this summer. If he can secure a move home then Perez will probably be happy, while the modest £2million fee will surely appeal to the Spanish side as well. West Ham obviously aren’t too bothered about the transfer fee, they just want to get him off their books, so Perez’s departure looks inevitable this summer.
