West Ham United captain Mark Noble has revealed that he voted for midfielder Declan Rice as his Hammers Player of the Year.
The 20-year-old has made a stunning impact for Manuel Pellegrini’s side this season, but Noble admits he could have opted for another West Ham star.
The Hammers captain then heaped praise on goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski and dubbed him phenomenal for his displays this season; sharing he wish he could have voted for him too.
“We have the awards dinner next week and one of the presentations is the players’ player of the season,” he wrote in his Evening Standard column.
“My vote goes to Declan Rice but it was a close call between him and Lukasz Fabianski. I’ve talked a fair bit about Dec but Lukasz has been phenomenal for us this season and if there were two awards, I would vote for him as well.”
OPINION
It was always going to be a close call for the West Ham players when choosing between Rice and Fabianski for their players’ player of the season award. Both Hammers have been absolutely exceptional this season, and there are no other reasonable candidates you could pick ahead of them. Marko Arnautovic had a tremendous first half of the campaign, but quickly fell off after the China speculation in January. Felipe Anderson, meanwhile, has produced moments of brilliance but simply hasn’t been as consistent as Rice or Fabianski. While the Englishman has been terrific from start to finish this term, you have to say that the Poland ‘keeper has been the standout West Ham player this season. He’s bailed them out on countless occasions with a multitude of fantastic saves. He kept them in games they had no right to be in and for that he should probably be the one who eventually wins the players’ player of the season award.
