West Ham United goalkeeper Adrian appeared to be saying goodbye to the club’s fans in the away end after the team’s win over Watford on Sunday, according to journalist Sam Inkersole.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side eased to a 4-1 victory over the Hornets at Vicarage Road but, with Adrian out of contract at the end of the season, it would appear that his time as a Hammer is up after 150 appearances for the club.

Inkersole certainly seems to think so: “Very much looked like a farewell from Adrian to the Hammers faithful,” he wrote on his personal Twitter account.

“He’s been a hugely popular figure in east London.”

OPINION

All the signs certainly seem to point to Adrian leaving the club at the end of the season, and at this point it would be a huge surprise to somehow see him representing West Ham next campaign. He is out of contract in a month or so’s time, no talks over an extension have seemingly occurred, and he’s no longer the team’s number one ‘keeper. So it makes sense for him to move on now, even if he clearly still holds a place in the hearts of the Hammers faithful. The Spaniard has been a fine servant to the club over the years and is clearly immensely popular. However, his time is up and it certainly appears in the video posted by Inkersole that the player himself think so as well. He was evidently waving goodbye to the supporters as they passionately chanted his name. He’s been a great player for West Ham over the years and he’ll be much missed, but the time has come for him to move on. Perhaps a return to his homeland beckons.
