West Ham United co chairman David Gold has explained why Hammers goalkeeper Adrian is leaving the club this summer.
The east London outfit recently announced that the long-serving ‘keeper would depart the London Stadium when his contract expires in a month’s time.
However, not everyone was happy about the decision. One person on Twitter questioned the wisdom of his departure, stating that the Spaniard will likely move to Crystal Palace and play a blinder against West Ham next season.

OPINION
This is clearly the crux of the matter, isn’t it? The Hammers would probably be happy for Adrian to stay if he was content to remain as Lukas Fabianski’s back up, but he obviously doesn’t want to. He’s been used to playing first team football in his career and is clearly keen to continue doing so. That’s fair enough and should be commended. He’s still a solid top flight shot-stopper, it’s just that Fabianski came in and proved himself to be one of the Premier League’s finest ‘keepers this campaign. That doesn’t make Adrian a bad player, though, and so he’s quite right to demand first team football this summer. The 32-year-old may well end up at Palace or some other top flight team, but that’s life. There’s nothing West Ham can do about it now. He’ll be free to choose where he plays next and he deserves that privilege. The entire Hammers fanbase, though, will be hoping that the Spaniard does secure the first team football he craves – he deserves it.
