Chris Waddle has criticised West Ham’s first half performance against Tottenham after a disappointing showing in Saturday’s Premier League clash.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live’s coverage of the London clash, Waddle spoke about what he saw from the Hammers side: “What comes to mind when I look at West Ham? They’re on the beach, nothing to play for, as such, we’ve all had it. On the Beach. Factor 25.”

West Ham have almost nothing left to play for with their Premier League status confirmed for next season. Manuel Pellegrini’s men had some decent openings but their main objective was obvious to see, and that was not to concede.

OPINION

The debate on what sides do when they travel to the top six sides in the Premier League has been as strong as ever in the last two weeks. Brighton were criticised for their style of play when aiming for a point away at Spurs in their bid for survival. West Ham set up with a clear objective, be tight at the back and counter attack at pace through the likes of Felipe Anderson. After two quality saves from Lukas Fabianski, West Ham settled into the game and looked dangerous on the break and wasted a couple of chances to take the lead. Many would disagree that West Ham look like their on the beach, their plan has worked throughout the game and they have frustrated Spurs throughout and they will definitely have more chances to steal the game as it continues to the latter stages.
