West Ham are said to be interested in bringing Stoke midfielder Joe Allen to the club according to a report from the Telegraph – but the news has not gone down well with the supporters in east London. The Hammers are said to be in line to battle it out with Watford to sign the Welshman who has been part of a disappointing Championship season for his club. The news is underwhelming for West Ham who have also been linked with other top European talents ahead of the summer transfer window. Fans at the London Stadium reacted to the news in dismay with one even slating the rumours calling it ‘pathetic’. With players such as Carlos Sanchez likely to leave alongside the ageing Mark Noble, Manuel Pellegrini will need to dip into the transfer market to strengthen the midfield. Putting faith in the experience of the Welsh international after he dropped into the Championship would be a huge risk and given the success of Declan Rice this season, it’s a surprise that West Ham will not be looking for a younger option to take the club forward in the future.
