Many West Ham fans were no doubt astounded when their club splashed an incredible £100million in last summer’s transfer window.

Whether they are able to repeat that remains to be seen, but boss Manuel Pellegrini knows that there are a few areas that he really needs to strengthens ahead of next season, and one of the main ones is the central midfield.

It has been well documented that this position has been the worst hit in terms of injuries this term, with the likes of Jack Wilshere and Carlos Sanchez among the casualties. That leaves the likes of Declan Rice and Mark Noble to lead the way, as it is possible that Pedro Obiang is going to be leaving in the summer.

This is exactly why the Hammers should revisit their hunt for Barcelona midfielder Denis Suarez, who is currently on loan at Arsenal this season. According to the Sun in January, West Ham tabled a £20million bid for Suarez – the sum of money the La Liga club wanted for his services.

In the end, the Gunners ended up signing him after he rejected the Irons’ approach, but seeing as that switch has not exactly gone according to plan, they would be wise to reignite their pursuit of him. He is just the player needed to add that extra bit of class in the middle of the park, and he would take the weight off the shoulders of Noble.

The 25-year-old would be a massive hit at the London Stadium, that is for sure. The fans would love it if a high-calibre player like the Spanish maestro arrived at the club, and he is just the sort of player that could set the tone for more similar signings in the future.

Many West Ham fans would roar if the club set their sights on Suarez once again, as he has the ability to transform them in an instant.
