Many West Ham fans are surely up in arms over the fact that Paul Merson suggested that manager Manuel Pellegrini was in danger of losing his job.

The Sky Sports pundit shared that you had to worry for the senior Hammers figure as it would be a surprise if the club didn’t make a change if the current form continued.

“You worry for the manager here,” said Merson on Soccer Saturday (13:42, Saturday April 6th, Sky Sports News).

“I’ll be surprised if they keep on going the way they are, they’ll be change there, there will be change, and he has done nothing wrong really.”

Given that Merson admits Pellegrini has done nothing really wrong then surely Hammers fans should be angered that the pundit implied the manager should worry as all it did was stir the pot.

The Hammers have been in awful form as of late as not only have their performances been lacklustre, the club’s results have been very disappointing.

Yet while Pellegrini isn’t completely blameless for the team’s struggles, he has made some questionable decisions, for it to be suggested his head is effectively on the chopping block is unneeded.

The experienced manager has proven this season that he is the right man to take the Hammers forward as not only does he encourage an attacking style of football but he hasn’t steered away from gambling on young players.

West Ham need a boss who can keep fans happy by playing the perceived right way and they need someone who is actually going to make use of all the talented players their academy continues to churn out.

While it’s hard to predict what the Hammers board are thinking, you do feel that they appointed Pellegrini in the summer to guide the club for the foreseeable future and know how toxic making a rash decision regarding managers can be.

There was a lot of change of personnel in the summer, behind-the-scenes and on the pitch, and if they don’t stick with Pellegrini for at least one season then the Hammers will look like a club not willing to give someone the right amount of time.

With this in mind then Hammers fans surely are up in arms that a high-profile pundit like Merson is fuelling speculation about Pellegrini’s future with his remarks.
