Adrian Durham suggested that Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa would be a good fit to succeed Manuel Pellegrini at the London Stadium.

The broadcaster was debating with co-host Darren Gough whether the experienced manager would leave Elland Road if the Whites didn’t get promoted and then seemed to be in awe of the thought of him going to West Ham.

Durham suggested Bielsa to the Hammers despite revealing he thought it would be a “shame” if he left Leeds as he seemed suited to the “crazy” division that was the Championship.

“West Ham? Bielsa to West Ham…now, now you’re talking, now you’re talking!” said Durham on talkSPORT (April 9th, Tuesday, 17:51).

OPINION

It’s odd that Durham is discussing the potential next manager of West Ham as current boss Pellegrini only arrived in the summer. The Hammers may be struggling for form in recent weeks, but does that mean there should be a debate about who should be their next manager? Pellegrini looks like the right man to lead the Hammers forward, he just needs longer than one season to implement his vision on the club. The experienced manager has encouraged his side to play an attacking style of football which Hammers fans like and has utilised the academy more than most have in recent seasons. Also given that the Hammers board invested a lot in new signings in the summer to go alongside Pellegrini’s arrival, changing manager anytime soon would be a huge gamble, that simply doesn’t look worthwhile as it stands. There’s no denying Bielsa would be an intriguing choice to become Hammers manager if Pellegrini left, but it’s a curiosity fans can cope with having.
