West Ham are in the hunt to sign Real Madrid attacker Dani Ceballos, according to the Mirror

The newspaper claims that Pellegrini rates Ceballos highly and although Real Madrid would prefer to loan out the 22-year-old Spain international, he could become available for a permanent transfer if Madrid’s valuation is met in the summer.

After Madrid signed Ceballos from Real Betis in 2017, Spanish news outlet AS reported that a whopping £430million release clause had been included in the attacking midfielder’s contract.

OPINION

Pellegrini’s first season in charge of West Ham United has been solid, but unspectacular, with the Hammers falling short of challenging for a Europa League spot, but not looking in any relegation trouble. If West Ham are to build on this campaign it will be crucial for Pellegrini to improve the quality and strength in depth of his squad. One such position that has been an issue is central midfield, with Mark Noble and Declan Rice predominantly starting at the heart of West Ham’s midfield, both Jack Wilshere and Manuel Lanzini have had injury problems leaving the Hammers’ midfield short of a bit of creativity. Bringing in players with the quality of Dani Ceballos would be a very good start, with the 22-year-old having good quality in possession and the ability to score a few goals from midfield. Pellegrini has experience working with and getting the best out of players with potential, having managed both Real Madrid and Manchester City, and Ceballos could flourish under the Chilean at West Ham if the Hammers can secure his signature this summer.
