West Ham United have agreed personal terms of a two year contract with Roma striker Edin Dzeko, according to Il Tempo.

The Italian news outlet report on their website that the 33-year-old is edging closer to an exit from the Serie A club after agreeing on terms with the Hammers.

The report adds that the Irons’ first offer for the 6ft 4in [Transfermarkt] giant was knocked back by Roma, and that the agreement between Dzeko and West Ham would “guarantee” him the same wage that he receives at the moment.

OPINION

It really remains to be seen whether this would be a good deal for the Hammers. Yes, they need to strengthen their attack desperately, but is Dzeko the right player for the job? He was excellent for Manchester City back in the day, but at the age of 33, he is no doubt slowing down a bit. He has scored 12 goals for Roma this season, which shows signs of promise, but he is not a long-term option for the Irons. A switch to East London looks to be on if this report is anything to go by, and it looks like that he could beĀ  a West Ham player for the next two years. What will the fans think of this development? They no doubt wanted their club to go after someone with a more prolific record than this, but perhaps Dzeko is not the worst option available to them. If he does arrive at the London Stadium, here is hoping that he can recapture his previous form.
