Declan Rice has revealed that Ryan Fredericks is his best friend at West Ham.

The full-back has endured an injury hit season since going from Fulham over the summer, but the 20-year-old was quick to single him out as his closest mate in the Hammers dressing room.

Speaking to Stadium Astro, when asked to name his best friend in football, the England international said: “At West Ham it’s probably Ryan Fredericks, that’s my boy.”

OPINION

This just goes to show how much influence a player can have in a squad even if he isn’t playing on the regular. Fredericks has had to endure a pretty disappointing season so far, and probably hasn’t featured anywhere near as much as he would have wanted to, but he has clearly ingratiated himself with the rest of his teammates well, and him and Rice are clearly good mates. As a fan, it can sometimes be easy to forget about a player when they are in the treatment room, but the reality is that time doesn’t just stop when a player picks up a knock, and they are still in and around the club all day, every day as they undergo the healing process. The hope for all West Ham fans now, however, will be that they get to see the duo play together more regularly for some time to come. That will depend entirely on Fredericks’ injury woes and Rice’s future plans.
