Fabianski must be flabbergasted

Generally speaking, if you find a good goalkeeper, you hang on to them for grim death.

A safe pair of hands between the sticks cannot be underestimated as an asset, and so it must have come as something of a surprise to West Ham fans to read that they could be interested in Everton stopper Jordan Pickford when they already have the exemplary Lukasz Fabianski.

According to the Sun, the England number one could be offloaded by the Toffees in the summer as they look to replace him with Burnley’s Nick Pope, and the Irons could be tempted by a big money swoop for the former Sunderland man.

That is, frankly, flummoxing.

Fabianski may be the wrong side of 30, but he has been absolutely brilliant so far this campaign, and is arguably West Ham’s player of the season.

Why would the club seek to replace him for an astronomical fee when he still has plenty left to give?

He won’t be around forever, but he certainly will be there next season, and there is no way you can justify dropping him, or spending a ludicrous amount of money on a goalkeeper to bench him week after week.

It makes no sense whatsoever, and nobody will be more flabbergasted that Fabianski.

The veteran keeper clearly knows he has been worth his weight in gold this season and the fact the Hammers may have one eye on someone else is insulting.

If there is no truth in the report then the Hammers need to reassure him quickly, or risk unsettling one of the most standout performers they have had during an otherwise temperamental Premier League campaign.
